Commission Governance Of Nahata Dziil Community

The “New Lands” area is a planned community being developed by the Navajo-Hopi Relocation Commission for Navajos being relocated from the Hopi Partitioned Lands (HPL).

Development of this community is ongoing and includes areas designated for various uses, including: residential, industrial, commercial, community and educational facilities; as well as agriculture and recreational use. Communities located in the New Lands include: Rural Community, Chambers, Middle Well, Little Silversmith, Parker Draw, Navajo Springs, Hogan Well, Rim Range, East Mill, Hard Scrabble, Antelope Well, Blue Bird, North Well, Kelsey, and Barth Lake.

Nahata Dziil became the 110th chapter of the Navajo Nation on April 04, 1991.

Nahata Dziil Chapter is the first full Local Governance Act (LGA) Certified Chapter of the Navajo Nation.

On August 16, 2002 Nahata Dziil Chapter was the second Chapter certified for the Five Management System.

On December 7, 2004 Nahata Dziil Chapter was the second Chapter certified for Community Land Use Planning (CLUP).

On January 24, 2008 Commission Government recognized by the Navajo Nation Election Office.


"The mission of Nahata Dziil Chapter is to create a safe and healthy community environment. This will be done through an accountable local government that exercises its authority, by: 1) Enhancing social services to better meet the needs of the community; 2) Developing a positive business environment through partnerships; and 3) Establishing mutual trust, respect and understanding through education. Throught our work of creating a safe and healthy community, we value teamwork, communication, community fairness, honesty, knowledge and achievement.

THE GOVERNANCE COMMISSION SHALL REPRESENT THE COMMUNITY OF NAHATA DZIIL AND SHALL:

-Protect the health, safety and welfare of the people.
-Respect the concerns and interest of the local community.
-Make effective and efficient decisions concerning local matters.
-Create opportunities so that the people can prosper and flourish economically and educationally.
-Ensure that custom and traditions of the Dine will be maintained.
-Foster the participation of the youth in the community.
-Ensure separation of powers and checks and balances of power in the operation of the local government.
-Enact ordinances, rules and regulations consistent with Navajo Nation law.
-Represent the community at the tribal, county, state and federal governmental levels.



The New Lands Chapter conducts meetings monthly to keep residents informed; residents have a forum to express their opinions to their Navajo Nation Council Delegate or to decide on matters concerning their chapter.
